周颂平教授获得W. F. James Chair Professor任命

我校数学研究所所长周颂平教授日前收到加拿大St. Francis Xavier University 主管副校长Mary B. McGillivray的来函，正式通知他获得W. F. James Chair Professor的任命。

　　信中说：“As you probably know, the James Chair allows us to bring leading teachers and researchers here to provide intellectual interaction and research support for our faculty and senior students. No specific tasks are required of you during your tenure; however, the department may request that you deliver a seminar on a topic of your choice. …I am sure that our students and research programs in the Department of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science will benefit greatly from your stay with us.”

　　St. Francis Xavier University连续四年被加拿大全国性杂志Maclean's magazine列为加拿大本科教学水平第一的大学。据悉，该校的地球科学学科具有很高的研究水平，过去的James Chair Professor中有许多国际知名专家，他们大多出自地球科学领域。此外，该校的生物、化学、数学与计算机科学、物理和心理学等学科也具有相当的研究实力。
